Heading Tag Analyzer

Analyze H1–H6 heading structure in your HTML for SEO issues, skipped levels, and accessibility.

Paste your full HTML page source or just the heading tags.

About Heading Tag Analyzer

Free online heading tag analyzer that checks your page's H1–H6 structure for SEO best practices and accessibility. Paste your HTML source and instantly see a visual heading tree, a count of each heading level, and a list of issues — including missing H1, multiple H1s, skipped heading levels (e.g. H2 → H4), and headings that are too long. The tool generates an SEO score out of 100 based on the severity of detected issues. A well-structured heading hierarchy helps search engines understand page content, improves SERP rankings, and makes your page more navigable for screen reader users. No server uploads, no signup, 100% browser-based.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does heading structure matter for SEO?
Search engines use heading tags (H1–H6) to understand the topic hierarchy of your page. A clear, logical structure helps Google determine what your page is about and which sections are most important. Pages with a single, keyword-rich H1 and a well-nested hierarchy tend to rank better and earn richer search snippets.
How many H1 tags should a page have?
Best practice is exactly one H1 per page. The H1 should be the main topic of the page and ideally include your primary keyword. Multiple H1s can confuse search engines about the page's primary subject.
What does 'skipped heading level' mean?
A skipped level occurs when you jump from, say, H2 directly to H4 without an H3 in between. While browsers render this fine, it breaks the logical document outline, can confuse screen readers, and signals poor content structure to search engines.
How is the SEO score calculated?
The score starts at 100 and deducts points for errors (−30 each) and warnings (−10 each). Errors include missing or duplicate H1 tags; warnings include skipped heading levels and headings over 70 characters.
Can I paste just the heading tags instead of full HTML?
Yes. The tool only looks for H1–H6 tags in the input, so you can paste a snippet with just the headings rather than the full page source.
Does this tool access my website?
No. The analysis is entirely client-side. Paste your HTML source into the text area and the tool runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
